Privacy policy
Last updated: 28 October 2026
Schemers of Venice is a game made by Mitch Goulson, an independent developer in California ("we", "us"). This policy covers the iPhone and iPad app and this website, schemersofvenice.com. Questions: support@schemersofvenice.com.
The short version
- We never record your video or audio. It goes live to the players at your table and is not stored.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell or share your information.
- You don't need an account. Without one we keep only what a game in progress needs, and delete it within 12 hours.
- Playing the computer sends nothing at all.
What we collect, and why
| What | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| A user ID. When you play with other people, the app signs you in anonymously and gets a random ID (no name, no email). If you choose Sign in with Apple, that ID is linked to your Apple ID. | To let you into the rooms you were invited to, and to keep everyone else out. | Anonymous IDs: deleted after 30 days without use. Accounts: until you delete them. |
| A device ID. A random number created when you install the app (or first visit in a browser). It stays on your device; we only ever receive a one-way scrambled version of it. | So that blocks and bans work. | As long as a block or ban needs it. |
| Your email address, only if you sign in with Apple and Apple shares it (it may be a private relay address). It is kept by our sign-in provider, not in the game. | Account recovery. | Until you delete your account. |
| Game data: the room, who is in it, the characters chosen, and the game as it is played. Your cards are encrypted so that only you can see them. If you sign in: your stats (games played and won, bluffs landed and caught, plays per character), your chosen character, and when you accepted the Terms. | To run the game; stats are what an account is for. | Rooms: deleted within 12 hours. Stats: until you delete your account. |
| Chat messages and reports. Chat in a room travels through that room. If someone reports a player, the report includes the reason, anything the reporter wrote, the last 50 chat lines in that room, the time, and both players' user and device IDs. | So the room works, and so we can act on reports. | Chat: with the room (within 12 hours). Reports: one year. |
| Camera and microphone. Only when you turn them on. They stream live to the other players at your table and are not recorded or stored, by us or anyone working for us. | Live video is the game. | Not kept. |
Like any website or app that connects to the internet, the services below see your IP address when you use them, and keep short technical logs under their own policies. We don't use those logs to identify you.
Who processes it
- Google Firebase (Realtime Database, in the United States, and Authentication): rooms, accounts and stats.
- Cloudflare: live video and audio relay (Realtime), our server code (Workers), report emails (Email Service), and this website.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, and the App Store.
They handle data only to provide these services to us. We don't use advertising or analytics companies.
Your choices and rights
- Play without an account, and keep your camera and mic off. The camera is off until you turn it on; the mic starts muted.
- Delete your account any time: Menu › Account › Delete Account. Your account and stats are deleted, and Sign in with Apple is disconnected. You can also email us to do it.
- Ask us what we hold about you, or to correct or delete it: support@schemersofvenice.com.
California residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information, and we don't use sensitive personal information to infer anything about you. The categories we collect are the identifiers, game data and user content described above, for the purposes described above. To use your rights, email us; we'll verify the request by the account or device it concerns.
Children
Playing with other people and using the camera are for ages 13 and up; the app asks before you play with others for the first time. Anyone can play the computer, which sends no information at all. If you believe a child under 13 has played with others or used the camera, email us and we will delete what we hold.
Security
Everything travels encrypted. Rooms can only be read by the people seated in them, your cards are encrypted to your own device, and reports and bans are readable only by us.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
